The Honolulu Police Department (HPD) today announced the launch of Safer Roads, Together a community-driven traffic safety campaign designed to reduce fatalities and dangerous driving behaviors through partnership and public engagement.
The campaign emphasizes that safety is everyone’s kuleana and that HPD will engage drivers and community members in constructive ways to promote safer road behaviors rather than focusing solely on enforcement.
“Every driver, passenger and pedestrian deserves to get home safely,” said Interim Chief Rade Vanic. “Safer Roads, Together reflects our belief that aloha and partnership must guide the way we engage with our community on traffic safety. We want to remind everyone that simple choices — like buckling up, putting your phone away and slowing down — save lives. And please, drive with aloha.”
The initiative launches with a focus on Traffic Safety Tuesdays, a weekly digital and social media series in which HPD officers will share quick safety reminders and highlight community partnerships. Officers will also have a presence in communities across the island, engaging with the public to promote safe driving behaviors.
