Building Bonds and Ensuring Safety at Kapolei and Waiʻanae High Schools

January 20, 2026

  • Half-body photos of a Honolulu Police Department School Resource Officer (SRO) and a Kapolei High School JROTC student and cadet. The SRO is attired in his uniform and the cadet is attired in shades of green camouflage uniform. The SRO is placing a pin on the cadets uniform.
  • Half-body photo of two Honolulu Police Department School Resource Officers. Both are attired in their HPD uniforms and posing with a shaka. The background appears to be outdoors on campus with green grass and buildings.
  • Full-body photo five males, three are Honolulu Police Department School Resource Officers. All officers are attired in their HPD uniforms. Two of the males are attired in an Aloha shirt and long pants. All males are posing with a shaka. Background setting is what appears to be a classroom.

Last week was the first week that our Kapolei High School and Waiʻanae High School Resource Officers worked on campus. They spent the week introducing themselves to faculty and students, walking the campuses, and engaging with students to build positive relationships. The SROs intervened in several campus fights, stopping them before they escalated.

They also gave classroom presentations and spoke with students on various topics. At Kapolei High School, students in the JROTC program requested the presence of the SROs and invited one officer to participate by pinning students during their promotional ceremony.

Our School Resource Officers will continue to work on keeping campuses safe while building strong bonds with the school communities they serve.
