On January 21, 2026, HPD responded to an unresponsive male found in an open parking lot fronting 1188 Maunakea Street. The 62-year-old male was transported to the hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased, and an unattended death investigation was initiated.
During the course of the investigation, it was discovered that the victim had previously reported being assaulted on January 20, 2026, at approximately 4:00 a.m., at a nearby location.
A 26-year-old male was identified as a suspect, and on January 22, 2026, District 1 Crime Reduction Unit officers arrested the 26-year-old male in the Chinatown area for Manslaughter.
The investigation remains ongoing.
