HPD Stresses Road Safety After 54th Traffic Fatality

Oʻahu has now recorded 54 traffic fatalities this year—double the number from last year. Each loss is devastating and preventable.

Interim Chief Rade Vanic reminds us:

“Traffic safety is not just the responsibility of law enforcement— it is a shared kuleana. Whether you are behind the wheel, walking, or riding, each of us plays a role in making sure everyone gets home safely.”

Safety starts with small choices:

Drivers: Slow down, stay alert, never drive impaired.
Pedestrians: Use crosswalks, make eye contact, stay aware.
Bicyclists: Be visible, follow traffic laws, use bike lanes when possible.
Everyone: Share the road, show patience, drive with aloha.

Together, we can protect lives.
