HPD Officers transform into chefs for summer


This is a cooking class like no other. Nearly 30 students from James Campbell High School are getting some culinary techniques from District 8 (Kapolei-Waianae) Community Policing Team and Officers from the Police Activities League (PAL). The Culinary Arts Cooking Program started last week and runs through the middle of July. The program started in 2003 after several students requested to have a program that teaches them cooking skills. This summer, the kids will learn to make some of the popular local dishes like chicken katsu, beef stew, scampi, fresh fish, sushi, chicken roulade, and a variety of soups and sauces. Besides the HPD chefs, the students will also get some cooking advice from selected guest instructors. And on top of gaining new skills, the students will also receive an elective credit for school. At the end of the program, there will be a luncheon and the kids, or should we say chefs, will receive certificates and will prepare dishes for their guests.
