Maika`i Loa

We say, "Maikai Loa!" A job well done to retired Lieutenant and HPD volunteer David Kauahi, who was in the right place at the right time when he intervened to protect an Emergency Room nurse who was attacked by a patient. On March 13, 2025, the nurse was treating a patient who had become increasingly agitated. The nurse had just left the patient’s room when he chased her down the hall and began punching her in the face and neck. Retired Lt. Kauahi noticed the commotion and quickly intervened, subduing the patient until help arrived. This allowed ER staff to treat their colleague, who sustained head trauma and lacerations. Lt. Kauahi is commended for his bravery, quick thinking, and decisive action. We are grateful for his ongoing commitment to protecting and serving our healthcare professionals and community. Well done and mahalo!
