Traffic Fatality #24 of 2025

Google Map Picture of Kahekili Highway

On April 20, 2024, at about 1:20 A.M., a fatal motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian occurred on Kahekili Highway near Haiku Road in the Kaneohe area.

It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department’s Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section,  that a 33-year-old male pedestrian was walking northbound on Kahekili Highway when he was struck by an unknown motorist, also traveling northbound. The unknown motorist fled the scene without rendering aid or providing information.

As a result of the initial collision, the 33-year-old pedestrian was left lying in the roadway when a 52-year-old female motorist and her 19-year-old passenger, traveling northbound on Kahekili Highway, came upon the pedestrian and pulled over to assist.

Shortly thereafter, a 55-year-old female motorist approached the stopped vehicle and attempted to  avoid a collision when she was rear-ended by a 40-year-old male motorist with a 32-year-old female passenger.

As a result of this collision, the 40-year-old male motorist then collided with the 52-year-old female motorists vehicle and the 33-year-old male pedestrian, who was subsequently struck again.

The 33-year-old male pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 32-year-old female passenger of the 40-year-old motorist was transported to an area hospital in serious condition.

No other injuries were reported.

At this time, it is unknown whether speed, drugs, or alcohol were contributing factors in the collision.

This is the 24th Traffic Fatality on Oahu this year, as compared to 10 at the same time in 2024.

If anyone has any information, please contact the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, at (808) 723-3413

The investigation is ongoing.
