Field units may request criminal history information via the police radio.
Field personnel seeking to obtain criminal history
information via radio shall follow the requirements of this directive.
The field unit shall furnish the dispatcher with the
name, date of birth, and/or social security number of the person in question;
The dispatcher shall query the Criminal History File;
If a record exists, the dispatcher shall confirm
it by responding with the alpha number; and
When there is a valid reason to query arrests
and/or convictions, the dispatcher shall use
the three digit incident codes to identify
offenses. At no time will clear language be
used, either by field units or dispatchers,
to identify criminal offenses over the police radio.
