The department shall be guided by its Bloodborne
Pathogens Exposure Control Plan and statements
herein for prevention, education/training,
post-exposure evaluation, follow-up treatment,
etc., relating to bloodborne pathogens (e.g.,
HIV and hepatitis B) and other communicable diseases.
STATE AND FEDERAL REGULATIONS
The Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan
and this policy were developed in accordance
with the federal and state guidelines or as prescribed by law.
THE EXPOSURE CONTROL PLAN
The Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan is
designed to provide the guidance and means for
employees to minimize or eliminate on-duty
exposures to bloodborne pathogens.
A. The plan shall be supplemented by a training
program that is developed specifically for the topic.
B. The plan shall be reviewed by the Professional
Standards Office annually and updated whenever necessary.
C. A copy of the plan shall be made available to
employees via the Honolulu Police Department intranet.
D. The Human Resources Division shall make a copy
of the plan available to the director of the state’s
Department of Labor and Industrial Relations upon request.
AMENDING/UPDATING THE PLAN
Procedures for amending or updating the plan
shall be outlined in the plan itself.
