Officers from District 8 (Kapolei-Waianae), along with officers from the DLNR Division of Conservation and Resource Enforcement, arrested two adult males after DLNR officers heard gunshots fired at the Waianae Kai Forest Reserve last week.
A 48-year-old male was observed with an AR-15-style rifle that was discovered to be loaded and had no serial number. He was arrested and subsequently charged with multiple firearms offenses. During the course of the arrest, a 44-year-old male assaulted one of the responding HPD officers and caused bodily injury. This male was arrested and later charged with second-degree assault on a law enforcement officer.
As a result of this cooperative effort with our state law enforcement partners, a ghost gun has been taken off the streets. HPD and DLNR will continue this work to ensure the safety and security of the public.
