Traffic Division

The Traffic Division is responsible for three major functions:

  • investigation
  • traffic control and enforcement
  • safety

Traffic Division include the Vehicular Homicide Section (VHS) that investigates motor vehicle collisions involving death, critical injury, and felony traffic crimes. The Solo Motorcycle Detail that is tasked with facilitating normal traffic flow, especially during peak morning and afternoon hours. The motorcycle officers also perform escort duty for parades and visiting dignitaries. They also participate in community events such as the "Say Hi" school program.

Also under the Traffic Division is the Junior Police Officers (JPO's). The JPOs and traffic monitors provide traffic safety assistance for students traveling to and from our elementary schools. The JPO program has been active for 80 years and is the only student traffic assistance program in the nation. The Junior Police Officers provided traffic safety assistance at 120 Oahu schools during the school year.

Another program under the Traffic Division is the Disabled Parking Enforcement Program, which consists of civic-minded volunteers who are trained and commissioned by the department to enforce disable parking laws.
