Don't Drink and DriveImpaired driver checkpoints

The Honolulu Police Department will set up impaired driver checkpoints on Oahu throughout the months of January and February.

The checkpoints will be set up at unannounced times and locations from Thursday, December 29, 2011, through Wednesday, February 29, 2012, including (but not limited to) the New Year’s, Martin Luther King, President’s Day, and Mardi Gras holiday weekends.

The checkpoints are part of the department's ongoing efforts to reduce the number of collisions on our roadways.

Don't drink and drive. The legal drinking limit in Hawaii is 21.

Promoting intoxicating liquor to a person under the age of 21 is a misdemeanor punishable by up to one year imprisonment.

Driving requires your full attention.

The Honolulu Police Department reminds motorists that it is illegal to use a mobile electronic device while driving.

Watch out for bicyclists and pedestrians.

Wear you seat belts.

Always drive within the speed limit. You may risk more than a fine.
