Weed and Seed

Weed & Seed is a United States Department of Justice initiative that is administered locally by the United States Attorney’s Office. Initiated in 1992, the strategy currently includes more than 300 sites in 226 cities across the country. Operation Weed & Seed is a collaborative strategy that service agencies with private businesses, non-profit organizations and residents to reclaim, restore and rebuild their neighborhoods.

Philosophy

The Weed & Seed strategy is based on a two-pronged philosophy:

  • To “Weed” out the criminal element in the chosen community, AND
  • To “Seed” the community with prevention, intervention and treatment activities along with economic revitalization programs at the same time.

The 4 key elements of the Weed & Seed strategy are:

  1. Law Enforcement
  2. Community Policing
  3. Prevention, Intervention & Treatment
  4. Neighborhood RestorationEwa/Ewa Beach Community was designated a Weed & Seed site in February 2002.

Location

The Ewa/Ewa Beach Weed & Seed site is bordered by the following:

AhSing Park and the cane haul road running west bound thru the Ewa Villages Golf Course fence line up towards Essex road in Barbers Point, then east on Essex road fence toward the Honouliuli Sewage treatment plant to Geiger road, back to Essex road fence line of the Coral Creek Golf course to Hau Bush (Oneula Beach Park) shoreline, east bound to the end of Ewa Beach road, North bound to the Eastern fence line of the New Ewa Beach Golf course to North road, south bound to Iroquois drive, north on West Loch drive to Arizona road.
