What is marijuana?
The term "marijuana" refers to the leafs and flowering
tops of the hemp or cannabis plant.
A tobacco like substance produced by drying the leafs and flower
tops of the cannabis plant. Marijuana contains over 421 chemicals,
that increases to over 2000 when smoked. THC or Delta-9 Tetrahydrocannabinol
is believed to be responsible for most of the psychoactive
effects of the plant. Also known as; grass, pot, weed, pakalolo,
reefer.
How is marijuana used?
Marijuana is usually smoked. The leafs and flower top are
dried then rolled into cigarettes called joints.
What are the effects and symptoms of marijuana?
Some of the effect and symptom are:
- Distorts perceptions
- Affects the ability to think and reason
- Lack of motivation
- Difficulty in forming concepts, attention span is shortened
- Short term memory is impaired
- Feeling of intoxication
- Changes in sensory perception
- Eating binges - "munchies"
- Bloodshot and glasses eyes
- Appearance of intoxication without the smell of alcohol
- Lung damage, reduced motor skills
Prolonged use leads to physical and psychological addiction.
