Heroin
What is heroin?
Heroin is a narcotic derivative of the opium poppy plant.
In its processed state pure heroin is a white powder with
a bitter taste.
Another form of heroin is known as "black tar".
It gets its name because it resembles roofing tar. Its color
may vary from dark brown to black and it has a distinct odor
(vinegar-like).
How does heroin affect the user and what are the symptoms:
- Short lived state of euphoria
- Reduced vision - constricted pupils
- Drowsiness, followed by sleep, decreased physical activity
- Nausea and vomiting from impurities, constipation
- Physical and mental addiction
- Dry mouth, dry lips, thick speech
- Cold limbs - dresses warm, droopy eyelids, the nods,
- Health neglect, leading to malnutrition, infection, unattended
injuries and diseases
- Negative reaction to contaminants such as quinine, sugar,
and talcum powder
- Dirty needles, tracks, blood poisoning, hepatitis, AIDS
"Tracks"
