Preparing for the school traffic jam

Chief Louis Kealoha joined Department of Transportation (DOT) Director Glenn Okimoto and Department of Transportation Services (DTS) Director Michael Formby today for the annual "Beat the School Jam" news conference. Beginning Monday, August 26, The DOT estimates 51,900 university, college, and private school students will go back to school and that means there will additional traffic on our roadways.

Chief Kealoha says motorists should plan ahead of time. Sign up for Nixle alerts on road closures and monitor various media for the latest traffic updates. The HPD will also have more solo-bike officers on the roadways to help with the flow of traffic. Remember, do not drive distracted and if you are involved in a crash, move your vehicle to the far right side of the roadway, if possible, while waiting for the police to arrive.
