Ask HPD: Items on Rear View Mirror

Question: Is it legal to drive with items hanging from a rear view mirror?

Answer: It is illegal for objects to be hanging from the rear view mirror. Hanging objects could obstruct the driver's view of the roadway. This also includes handicap placards. They should only hang on the driver's rear view mirror when the vehicle is parked. When the vehicle is in motion, it must be taken down.

Question: What’s the penalty?

Answer: Violators can face a $72 fine.
