Funeral Service & Procession for Ret. Chief Keala

The funeral service for retired Honolulu Police Chief Francis Keala will take place on Thursday, January 19, 2017, at the Nuuanu Memorial Park & Mortuary (2233 Nuuanu Avenue). Visitation will begin at 8 a.m. and services will begin at 10 a.m.

The funeral procession will drive past the HPD’s Alapai headquarters (801 South Beretania Street) for a final salute at approximately 11 a.m. During this time, South Beretania Street will be temporarily closed from Ward Avenue to Alapai Street.

The procession is expected to reach the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific (2177 Puowaina Drive) for the burial service at 11:30 a.m.

Chief Keala passed away at his home on Saturday, January 7, 2017, at the age of 86. Chief Keala led the Honolulu Police Department from 1969 to1983, a tumultuous time for the nation and in policing. Chief Keala was a true leader, a devoted family man, and an inspiration to all who met him. He will be missed by many, both in and outside of the HPD.
