Ask HPD: Parking Space on a Public Roadway

Question: I have a neighbor who thinks the parking space in front of his house is his personal space. Sometimes he comes to my home, causes a scene with my family and guests, and threatens to call HPD or a tow truck to clear the space. What can we do about this? Is this legal for him to do?

Answer: It is against the law to reserve a parking space on a public roadway, even in front of your own residence. Anyone may park on a public street as long as they are legally parked. If a confrontation occurs and you feel threatened, please call 911. An officer will be sent to your residence to assist you.
