Ask HPD: Passing on the Right


Q: If a car is at an intersection waiting to make a left turn, is it allowed to pass that car on the right?

A: You are able to pass on the right under these conditions:

-If the vehicle in front is making or attempting to make a left turn
-The roadway has sufficient width and is not obstructed by a parked vehicle
-Roadway lanes are marked for 2 or more lines of vehicles in each direction, and
-It can be done safely without traveling off of the roadway.

Violators could face a $97 fine.
