Man tries to escape police custody

A 38-year-old man was arrested on one charge after he was allegedly caught with a stolen moped, but faced more charges after he attempted to escape from police custody. The moped was reported stolen earlier this month on Dole Street. It was located yesterday morning on Keeaumoku Street. An HPD officer noticed the suspect pushing the stolen moped across the street ran a check on it and determined it was stolen. The suspect was arrested and was placed in the back seat of a marked HPD vehicle. While there, the suspect became disorderly and tried to escape using physical force. After a brief struggle with HPD officers, the suspect was detained. He sustained minor injuries and was treated at a hospital. No HPD officers in the case were injured. The suspect was arrested for Unauthorized Control of Propelled Vehicle (UCPV), Attempted Escape and Resisting Arrest.
