Ask HPD: Using Cell Phones in Vehicles

Q. "Can I use my cell phone while at a stop light, or while I'm parked on the side of the road?"

A. If your vehicle is on, you should not be on your cell phone. That includes when you are at stopped at a light or parked, with your engine on, on the side of the road. The exemption is if you are making a 911 call. Violators face a $297 fine.
