Two charged in credit card scheme

A 23-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman from New York have been charged with theft and multiple counts of Unauthorized Possession of Confidential Personal Information (UPCPI) after they purchased merchandise from various high-end retail businesses in Honolulu using fraudulent credit cards with alias names. The suspects were subsequently arrested through an on-going investigation between the Honolulu Police Department and Secret Service agents. None of the victims in this case are from Hawaii, but every card holder could be a victim. HPD Lt. John McCarthy of the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) gives tips on how people can avoid falling victim, "Folks have to maintain their credit cards. They should never lose sight of it. Also checking your statements in a timely manner can help."
