Functions and Responsibilities Awards System CAS coordinates the department's award system, including promotions and officer and civilian awards. CAS also oversees the activities conducted as part of the national observance of Police Week in May each year. The section also maintains the department's website. Ho'ike Information Line The department's Ho'ike Information Line (529-3352) and email provide the public with contact points to obtain information on police-related concerns. CAS also participates in high school career days and "Say Hi" programs at elementary and middle schools. CAS also schedules speakers from other elements, including the Traffic Division, Criminal Investigations Division, Communications Division, and Scientific Investigations Section. Reserve Police Officer Program The Honolulu Police Department's Reserve Police Officer Program is administered by the Community Affairs Section and has approximately 80 trained volunteer officers. Mounted Unit The Honolulu Police Department's Mounted Unit is also assigned to the Community Affairs Section, adding a new dimension to the department's capabilities. Crowd control, rural area searches, and high-visibility patrols are some of the functions that can be accomplished by the unit. To promote positive relations with the community, the unit also conducts presentations at schools and community events. Maka'i Video Production HPD's Audio Visual Production Section is Maka'i Video. Introduced in 1994, this full-service video unit is staffed by officers and civilians who produce professional quality programs and projects. Their services include concept development, script writing, photography, editing, and equipment repair and maintenance. .
