Motor Vehicle Registration
Motor vehicle registration for the City and County of Honolulu is conducted by the city's Department of Customer Services.
Every owner of a motor vehicle (with few exceptions) that will be operated on a public highway shall apply for registration with the designated county agency. The applicable rules can be located in the Hawaii Revised Statuts, 286-41 Application for registration.
Useful Information
Every owner shall keep the certificate of registration within the vehicle for which it is registered and shall present it at the request of a police officer.
If you move from your current address or change your name, it is required that you notify the city's Department if Customer Services within 30 days.
If you sell your vehicle, it is your responsibility to submit within 10 days, a Notice of Transfer. Failure to do so could result in liability by reason solely of being the registered owner.
