Firearms Training / Safety Course

Handguns

For handgun acquisitions, no person shall be issued a permit under HRS-134-2 unless the person has completed a Hunter's Education Course,or a Firearms Training or Safety Course.

You must have a notarized affidavit, signed by the certified firearms instructor or certified military firearms instructor who conducted or taught the course, providing the name, address, and phone number of the instructor and attesting to the successful completion of the course by the applicant.

Military Personnel

The training requirement may be fulfilled by submitting a letter from their commander or firearms training officer which must:

  1. Be typed;
  2. Include the commander’s or training officer’s name, rank , address, and telephone number;
  3. Include a detailed description of the type of training the applicant received and, the date of training;
  4. Include a statement that indicates the applicant successfully completed the firearms training course and can handle and operate a firearm in a safe manner;
  5. Be attested to by the commander or firearms trraing officer;
  6. Be notarized by a  State of Hawaii Notary Public
