Can I send HPD a document or photograph by email?

I am from out-of-state. How can I make a police report for something that happened in Hawaii?

The Honolulu Police Department does not accept police reports by email. If you need to make a police report for insurance purposes, we suggest contacting your local law enforcement agency. Please be as specific as possible about the scene.

Your agency will contact HPD for follow-up. It is difficult to conduct an investigation that is not reported immediately and more so if it is reported out-of-state.

Also note that HPD's jurisdiction is on the island of Oahu. Inform your local law enforcement agency if your scene was on Maui, Kauai, or the island of Hawaii.

I was involved in a motor vehicle accident and my insurance company says I need a police report. How do I get a police report from HPD?

To obtain a traffic abstract, you must apply in person at the Records and Identification Division at the main police station, 801 South Beretania Street, Honolulu, Hawaii.

Telephone : (808)529-3271.

Motor vehicle accident reports are available about 7 days after the accident. There is a fee.

I have a business and would like to check the criminal history of my employees. Can HPD do that?
The Honolulu Police Department does not do personal criminal history checks. This service is provided by the Hawaii Criminal Justice Data Center, an agency of the Department of the Attorney General in the State of Hawaii. See their website for more information: http://hawaii.gov/ag/hcjdc.
I just moved to Hawaii and I have a firearm. Where can I find information about firearm laws for Hawaii?

See our web page regarding Hawaii's firearms laws. There is no 14 day waiting period for out-of-state registration. Once the firearm arrives in the state you have 3 calendar days to bring it in for registration. See the registration process.

The City and County of Honolulu does not recognize any outside jurisdiction's concealed weapons license.

For additional information, call the Honolulu Police Department's firearms unit at (808) 529-3371.

Where can I find out about HPD employment opportunities?

We have continuous recruitment for police officers and police dispatchers.

Click on the "JOBS" link at the top or bottom of most of our our web pages to get to the HPD Jobs Home Page for more information. (www.honolulupd.org/hrd)

You may call the Human Resources Division at (808) 529-3336 for more information.

HPD does not accept lateral transfers from other jurisdictions, even if they have a POST certificate.

How do I get a HPD shoulder patch?

In order to purchase a patch you must be affiliated with a law enforcement agency. You must provide a copy of your identification with that law enforcement agency, for example, a business card if available and a photocopy of your I.D.

There is a fee of $3.00 to defray the cost of the patch and mailing. Your remittance should be in the form of a U.S. postal or international money order payable to "City Director of Finance". We do not accept foreign monies, personal checks, or checks made payable to anyone else. You may purchase maximum of two patches. If you are interested in trading patches, please include your patch with the request instead of a check.
