This Domestic Violence Safety Plan and FAQ was put together by the Family Violence Detail of HPD´s Criminal Investigation Division.

What is a Domestic Violence Safety Plan?

A domestic violence safety plan are steps that you can take to protect yourself from danger in a domestic violence situation.

 

What are these steps?

  • Keep a bag packed that is ready to go and easy to grab at a moments notice.
  • Set a place in advance where you can go when you need to escape.
  • Keep some emergency cash hidden somewhere that you can get quickly.
  • Teach your children to call 911 and let them know that it is okay to call.
  • Keep your important papers with you or in your packed bag so that you'll have them available once you leave.
  • Call a domestic violence program for help.
