Pu'uhonua

A place of peace and safety

The Honolulu Police Department has formed working partnerships with several agencies in the community in our combined efforts to STOP DOMESTIC VIOLENCE. One of the projects, funded in part by a Federal Grant from the Violence Against Women's Act, is Pu'uhonua.

Pu'uhonua in Hawaiian means "A place of peace and safety". The Center is a collaboration between the Parents and Children Together, the Honolulu Police Department, and the Domestic Violence Clearinghouse and Legal Hotline. The Center provides victims of domestic violence and their children with comprehensive services at a single location.

Trained counselors are available to provide immediate counseling and support to victims. Community advocacy, educational materials, information and safety planning is provided.

A full-time attorney is available to provide services ranging from legal consultation to legal representation. Victims can receive legal assistance in obtaining restraining orders, legal separation, divorce, custody, visitation, adoption, paternity, property division, child support, and guardianship.

Please remember it is a crime to hurt anyone. No one needs to take abuse, especially from those they love. Only when the community works together can we STOP THE VIOLENCE because THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR DOMESTIC VIOLENCE.
