Requirements
Honolulu Police Department (HPD) applicants must pass an extensive
background investigation. This includes employment and residence references,
driving / criminal records, a psychological evaluation, a lie detector test, credit report, and a one-on-one interview with a Detective and Police Psychologist.
All background information will be taken into consideration in the decision
to hire. We are looking for applicants who exemplify our values of Integrity,
Respect, and Fairness.
TO BE CONSIDERED FOR A METROPOLITAN POLICE RECRUIT POSITION:
- Must be at least 20 years of age at the time of application.
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent to graduation from
high school.
- Must have a valid motor vehcile driver's license at the time of application. Must have a valid Hawai‘i driver’s license by the date
of hire.
- Must meet Federal and State eligibiltiy requirements to possess firearms.
- Must be a citizen, national, or permanent resident
alien of the United States.
- Must meet the medical standards established for the City & County
of Honolulu Metropolitan Police Recruit.
- Cannot have any DUI convictions within the last 3 years, cannot
have 2 or more DUI
convictions within the last 10 years.
- Cannot have your driver’s license suspended or revoked within
the last 3 years.
- Cannot have any felony convictions.
- Cannot have any convictions for domestic abuse or any crime of violence.
- Cannot have any convictions for a misdemeanor or petty misdemeanor
within the last 3
years.
