Metropolitan Police Recruit Benefits

Vacation:

14 hours of paid vacation per month. (21 8-hour days per year; cumulative up to 720 hours)

Sick leave:

14 hours of paid sick leave per month. (21 8-hour days per year.) Sick leave that is not used can be accumulated and converted into retirement credits.

Holidays:

13 paid holidays per year and 14 days in election years.

Established retirement plan:

Joint contributory retirement plan for retirement after 25 years of service or 55 years of age. Career military can retire after 10 years of service (and 55 years of age).

Deferred Compensation:

Withdrawal of Federal/State taxes from any contributions to this plan is deferred until retirement.

Life insurance:

Free life insurance.

Medical:

Partial City-subsidized medical, prescription drug, dental, and vision plans with option to pay premiums from pre-tax earnings.

Education reimbursement:

Higher education reimbursement up to $300 per session of accredited college courses (pending availability of funds).

Miscellaneous:

Police assistance program is available for those who are experiencing personal or job-related problems by assisting with referrals and coordinating professional counseling.
