Safety tips:

Unfortunately as we approach the holiday season, the number of Unauthorized Entries into Motor Vehicles, i.e. car break-ins tends to increase.  Here are a few tips to keep your belongings secure:

  • Be aware of your environment and the people around you.  Criminals are always on the lookout for shoppers leaving their new purchases or belongings in cars!
  • If you’re going somewhere, place your belongings in your trunk prior to arriving at your destination.  Don’t give criminals an advantage by showing them what you’re putting in your trunk!
  • If you place purchased items in your car, but intend to continue shopping, consider re-parking your car in a different location.  Some establishments offer storage lockers to secure your belongings.
  • Prevent personal identification from being stolen by not leaving mail or personal information in your car.  Your car’s title should never be left in your car!
  • Don’t leave anything visible in your car which would tempt a thief.  Smashed windows are expensive to replace.  A thief doesn’t know your gym bag contains only dirty clothes, or your sunglasses are only an inexpensive pair.  Even spare change left in view might entice thieves.
  • Remove garage door openers from your vehicle when you park.  A thief can use it to burglarize your home if they also obtain your address from your mail or car registration along with your garage door opener!
