Community Policing

Partnerships

Community policing is a philosophy that promotes organizational strategies in support with partnerships and problem solving techniques.  These strategies would then be utilized to address major public safety issues in our community.  It also encourages the public to become the major contributors to the decrease in crime in their area.

"The police are the public and the public are the police."
Sir Robert Peel (1788 - 1850)

Sir Robert Peel, known as the "Father of Modern Policing," is credited with establishing the modern concept of the police force. He realized that a partnership must exist for the success of the community and the police. Participation by all facets of the community is critical for real problem solving that leads to lasting solutions.

Community Walk

By using community partnerships, organizational transformations, and problem solving, the community works together to ensure Honolulu will be the safest city in the nation in which to live, work, and play.

The Honolulu Police Department strives to develop cooperative working relationships within the department, with other city and state agencies, and with the community.

The Community Affairs Division promotes police and citizen cooperation in the common cause of crime prevention, and improve the channels of communication and understanding between the police and the community.
