Chief's Message

Aloha,
Oahu is a paradise in many ways. We have beautiful island scenery, temperate weather, and a pace of life envied by many.
As a major U.S. metropolis, Honolulu is also vulnerable to crime problems similar to large mainland cities. While we are fortunate to have one of the lowest violent crime rates in the nation, there is still work to be done.
As the Chief, my priorities include improving the effectiveness and efficiency of how we operate as a department, improving our employee relations, and bettering our service to the community. This year we’d like focus on making our roadways safer and reduce property crime while managing our budget effectively. To accomplish this, we are relying on our speed enforcement, DUI saturation patrols, and impaired driver checkpoints. Our Community Policing Teams are working with neighborhood groups to solve chronic problems and address distinct issues in each community. Working together, we can be successful.
