Communications Division

The Honolulu Police Department's Communications Division is part of the Support Services Bureau.

The Communications Division is responsible for planning, organizing and operating the centralized communications system within the Department.  Police dispatchers for all eight districts on the Island of Oahu work out of the Communications Division located at the main police station.

 

The Communications Division is divided into three sections staffed by police radio dispatchers:

  • Urgent response section
  • Call taker section
  • Radio operation section

Communications Division is responsible for the entire 911 emergency system for the City and County of Honolulu.

Communications personnel answer and service all police 911 calls for emergencies and non-emergencies.

June 1970

Civilians hired as police radio dispatchers.

March 1975

Implementation of basic 911 services.

June 1987

Introduction of computer aided dispatch system (CADS)

September 1988

Implementation of Enhanced 911 system

December 1997

Implementation of 800 MHz radio system

March 2004 Initial accreditation from the Public Communications Accreditation Program
December 2006 Completed a 1.7 million dollar Alapai renovation
March 2007 Implementation of Enhanced Wireless 9-1-1 services
July 2007 Re-accreditation from the Public Communications Accreditation Program
