Emergency Response Section

HOW IT WORKS

When you call 9-1-1, your call is answered by the Emergency Response Section. It is then routed to the appropriate agency.

Emergency Response Section

Approximately 75% of the 65 to 70 thousand calls per month that come into 911 are for the police.

The remaining calls are routed to the ambulance and fire departments, the Crisis Center, and the Poison Control Center.

URGENT RESPONSE SECTION

If a 911 call is an emergency, it is sent to the Urgent Response Section.

The dispatcher assigned to the urgent response section performs the following duties:

  • Service emergency calls
  • Computer entry/update
  • Computer Inquiry
  • National Crime Information Center
  • Civil Defense

Examples of Emergency Calls:

  • Immediate threat to life and/or property.
  • Natural disaster
  • Cases in progress of just occurred

Don't hesitate to call 911!

NON-EMERGENCY 

If a caller is reporting a non-emergency, the call is sent to the call-taker section.

The dispatcher performs the following duties:

  • Service all calls.
  • Service requests from radio operators
  • Aids radio operators/breaks
